985 Naxals surrender, 1,177 arrested and 305 killed as Chhattisgarh tightens grip
The security forces in Chhattisgarh have intensified operations against Naxal groups, with more than 300 killed, over 1,100 arrested, and nearly 1,000 surrendering in the past 13 months.
The state government has given security forces full operational freedom and enhanced their abilities with new weapons and intelligence networks. This has led to targeted operations, resulting in the elimination or capture of several Naxal leaders.
“The government’s policy is clear — surrender or face action,” an official said.
Security forces, including Chhattisgarh Police and central agencies, have coordinated efforts to increase the success rate of operations. Intelligence-based strikes have been carried out in areas where Naxals remain active.
Authorities have also taken legal measures to prevent those arrested from returning to armed groups. The government has said that surrendered Naxals are being reintegrated into society through rehabilitation programmes.
FOCUS ON DEVELOPMENT IN NAXAL-AFFECTED AREAS
The government has linked its security operations with development efforts, aiming to reduce the influence of Naxal groups through economic growth.
Officials say infrastructure projects, including roads, communication networks, education, and healthcare, have been expanded in areas affected by the insurgency. These measures aim to improve access to government services and integrate tribal communities into the broader economy.
Employment and skill development programmes have been introduced for young people in these regions. The government says these efforts offer alternatives to armed resistance.
