Mumbai Eye to bring 360° views of Mumbai skyline and beyond
Forget the ‘London Eye’, India is all set to get its ‘Mumbai eye’ with the announcement made by Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation(BMC) to construct a big giant wheel modelled after the famous London Eye. The project which has been proposed by BMC will be developed under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model at a desirable space in the city. The provisioned Mumbai eye will work as a major tourist attraction in the city as well in Maharashtra, which will offer a bird’s view of the film city.
Previously, the plan surfaced but couldn’t fly off due to the opposition of locals.
MUMBAI EYE BUDGET FOR 2025-26
As the richest civic body in the country, BMC presented around 74,000 crore budget to Commissioner BMC Bhushan Gagrani, where it proposed the making of ‘Mumbai Eye’, who was appointed by the state government.
“The budget estimate for FY 2025-26 is proposed at Rs 74427.41 crore, which exceeds the budget estimates of 2024-25 i.e. rs 65180.79 crore, by 14.19 per cent” as per the document of BMC.
In the year 2023, the project plan was laid down for the 650ft-tall Mumbai eye at Bandra Reclamation promenade but was later scrapped.
COUNTRIES WITH ‘LONDON EYE’ LIKE BIRD VIEW
The London Eye touches the sky and provides a captivating view of the city, a 135m giant wheel is one of the most sought-after tourist attractions in London.
India would become the 15th country to have a bird’s eye view once the project is ready. Countries like the USA, Canada, Sweden, China, and Japan already have installed bird-view wheels. The UK’s popular London Eye is famous for birdwatching culture with popular ‘twitching events’.
Currently, UAE’s Ferris Wheekl holds the record for the tallest bird sight in the world, which is 250 meters tall. Las Vegas’s high roller is the second tallest in the world, which is 167.6 metres tall.
