Manipur Chief Minister resignation belated, demand raised in 2023, says Congress MP Jairam Ramesh

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh resigned from his post on Sunday, following which Congress Rajya Sabha MP Jairam Ramesh said that the party was set to move a no-confidence motion against him and his cabinet in the state assembly tomorrow. Calling Singh’s resignation “belated”, Ramesh said the Congress had been demanding his removal since May 2023, when violence first erupted in the state.

Ramesh also took a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for failing to visit the state that has been embroiled in ethnic conflict for nearly two years.

“The people of Manipur now await a visit by our Frequent Flier PM, who is off to France and the USA now-he has found neither the time nor the inclination to go to Manipur these past twenty months,” he said.
