Andhra Pradesh child trafficking ring busted – Andhra Pradesh: Child trafficking ring busted in NTR district, 3 children rescued, mastermind arrested


The NTR district police in Andhra Pradesh have busted a child trafficking racket and arrested five women, including the mastermind. Police also rescued three children, who were being sold to childless couples for lakhs of rupees.

Police Commissioner SV Rajashekhar Babu said Bagalam Sarojini, a 31-year-old woman from Vijayawada, was the mastermind behind the trafficking ring. She would target childless couples and sell them children, procured from Delhi and Ahmedabad, for lakhs of rupees, he said.

The rescued children are – a one-year-old boy, a two-year-old girl and a three-year-old boy. The arrested accused include – Sarojini,
Shaik Farina (26), Shaik Saidabi (33), Kovvarapu Karuna Shree (25) and Pedala Shirisha (26).

Sarojini had sold seven children in the past six months and had four more ready to be sold when she was caught. The accused would use fake documents and certificates to convince the couples that the children were orphans.

Police have registered a case under the Juvenile Justice Act and are investigating the case further. The accused have been remanded in judicial custody.

Police have appealed to people to provide any information about child trafficking. The authorities have also assured that the rescued children will be provided with proper care and rehabilitation.
