Actor Ranya Rao gold smuggling case fresh findings
The investigation into the massive gold smuggling operation involving Kannada actor Ranya Rao, the stepdaughter of a senior police officer, has revealed startling details about her modus operandi. Ranya Rao, who was arrested with gold bars worth Rs 12.56 crore strapped to her body in a hidden belt from the Bengaluru airport, has travelled to Dubai 30 times over the past year.
Overall, Rs. 17.29 crore has been seized by the DRI from her possession after sleuths raided her Bengaluru home and recovered gold jewellery worth Rs 2.06 crore and Rs 2.67 crore in cash. The actor’s father, DGP Ramachandra Rao, distanced himself from her actions, saying his daughter lived separately with her husband.
RANYA RAO GOLD SMUGGLING CASE: KEY FINDINGS
- Ranya Rao, who has acted in three films so far, travelled to Dubai 30 times over the past year and allegedly brought back huge amounts of gold, sources told India Today.
- The actor was paid Rs 1 lakh per kg of smuggled gold. Thus, she allegedly earned around Rs 1213 lakh per trip.
- Preliminary investigation has revealed that Rao used modified jackets and waist belts to smuggle the gold to evade airport security.
- For the past few weeks, the actor has been under surveillance due to her frequent Dubai visits. Sources said a police constable at the airport allegedly helped Ranya bypass security checks.
- Authorities suspect Ranya’s connection with a larger smuggling network that might include political figures, businessmen, and police officers.
