A tourist from Odisha was one of the victims of the deadly attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam terror attack that claimed at least 26 lives on Tuesday.

The family was visiting the scenic Baisaran Valley—popularly known as “mini Switzerland”—when suspected militants opened fire on a group of tourists. In the sudden chaos, Prashant was hit, leaving his wife and child in shock.

The incident has thrown his family into distress and heightened concerns over tourist safety in the Valley.

Security forces, including the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and paramilitary personnel, quickly moved in to secure the area. A joint search operation was launched to locate the attackers. Evacuation efforts were carried out using helicopters, and local residents aided in transporting victims from the high-altitude meadows on ponies.

The Resistance Front (TRF), a shadow outfit of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba, has claimed responsibility for the attack. Authorities have labeled it one of the most severe attacks on civilians in the region in recent years.
