Delhi polls: AAP leaders Sukhbir Singh Dalal, Balbir Singh join BJP ahead of Assembly polls – Delhi News
Ahead of the Assembly polls in Delhi, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former MLA Sukhbir Singh Dalal on Saturday joined the BJP along with Balbir Singh, a former Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee member.
Dalal, who served as MLA from Mundka from 2015-20, joined the BJP in the presence of Delhi BJP chief Virendraa Sachdeva and Union Minister and Lok Sabha MP Harsh Malhotra.
After joining the BJP, Dalal criticised the AAP leadership and policies, alleging a lack of attention to the issues of rural Delhi.
He also accused the AAP leadership of ignoring its MLAs and failing to deliver on its promises.
“I tried 50 times to meet Arvind Kejriwal for rural Delhi’s people. Ever since he shifted to Sheesh Mahal (the Delhi Chief Minister’s residence), he has not met MLAs. Kejriwal told me that AAP stands against corruption, crime, and lack of character, but I saw no such commitment. On the other hand, the BJP has consistently worked for rural Delhi under the leadership of my leader, Mr Sachdeva. I will now work as a soldier in the BJP, and thank them for this opportunity,” said Dalal.
Meanwhile, Balbir Singh, a long-serving DSGPC member representing Vivek Vihar in East Delhi since 1995, also joined the BJP, citing his trust in the party’s leadership and policies.
Welcoming the new members, Harsh Malhotra, Union Minister and BJP MP, said, “The Delhi government has done nothing for the people of Delhi. Leaders who joined AAP to fight corruption are now leaving after seeing its reality. Sukhbir Singh Dalal and Sardar Balbir Singh joining the BJP is a testament to the public’s faith in PM Modi’s governance and the central government’s achievements. I welcome them to the BJP family.”
The term of the 70-member Delhi Legislative Assembly ends on February 23 next year and polls are to be held before that.
Ahead of the Assembly polls, the joining of Sukhbir Singh Dalal and Sardar Balbir Singh is expected to strengthen the BJP’s outreach in rural Delhi and Sikh communities.
