Akshaye Khanna set to make Telugu debut after Chhaava success

Akshaye Khanna has officially joined the cast of Mahakali, the upcoming instalment in the Prasanth Varma Cinematic Universe (PVCU), according to sources close to the film’s production.

While details about his role are being kept under wraps, insiders confirm that Khanna will play a pivotal part in the growing superhero franchise. “All we can reveal is that his role will add intrigue and depth to the growing PVCU universe. His role will span across multiple films in the franchise and will prove to be an exciting addition. We’re hoping Mahakali is received as well as HanuMan was,” a source said.

The film, which will be the third in the mythology-inspired superhero universe following HanuMan and the upcoming Jai Hanuman, is still in the pre-production phase. Director Puja Aparna Kolluru and creator Prasanth Varma are currently finalising the cast and other crucial elements.

“Prasanth is particular about who he wants to cast as the lead because this will be his first female superhero, and it requires a certain charm while challenging beauty standards. Hopefully, all details will be ironed out soon, and the film will officially be rolled out,” the source added.

Mahakali, inspired by the fierce goddess Kali, is part of an ambitious slate that includes Adhira starring Dasari Kalyan as a character based on Lord Indra, and a yet-untitled project featuring Mokshagna Teja. The franchise launched with the success of HanuMan, led by Teja Sajja, and its highly anticipated sequel Jai Hanuman, which stars Rishab Shetty, is already in the works.
