CBI raids Shimla Enforcement Directorate official accused of taking bribe, seizes Rs 1 crore in cash


The Central Bureau of Investigation on Friday conducted searches at premises linked to an Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials in Shimla and recovered Rs 1.14 crore in cash, officials said.

The CBI carried out the searches against the accused official at the ED office in the Himachal Pradesh capital as well as his residence and recovered the cash.

The accused is an Assistant Director rank officer of ED and is absconding while his brother was arrested by the CBI while allegedly receiving bribes from a person, the probe agency’s officials added.

The CBI acted upon a complaint filed by a person who alleged that the accused official was threatening to arrest him if bribes were not paid to him as demanded.

After the raids by the CBI, the financial probe agency has transferred at least three officials from its Shimla branch, including the Assistant Director who is still absconding. Further investigation and efforts to track down the absconding ED official are underway.
