CLAT 2024: Exam authority issues strict code of conduct for fair tests

The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2025 is scheduled to take place on December 1, 2024, in a single session from 2 pm to 4 pm. The governing body of competitive examinations has issued a detailed Code of Conduct for candidates to ensure fairness and integrity during exams.
Adherence to these rules is mandatory, with strict penalties in place for violations, including disqualification or even criminal charges in severe cases.
KEY HIGHLIGHTS OF THE CODE OF CONDUCT
1. No unauthorised materials
Candidates are strictly prohibited from carrying unauthorised items like notes, written papers, or electronic devices into the examination hall.
2. Ban on communication
Any form of communication with fellow candidates—whether verbal, gestural, or via written notes—is strictly forbidden and will be treated as misconduct.
3. No smart devices allowed
The use of mobile phones, smartwatches, or other devices capable of storing or transmitting data is barred unless explicitly permitted.
4. Compliance with supervisor instructions
Candidates must follow all instructions from invigilators or supervisors without delay or argument. Non-compliance will be considered a breach of conduct.
5. No impersonation
Impersonation—writing an exam on behalf of someone else or having someone impersonate a candidate—is a grave offense and will attract severe consequences.
6. Handle question booklets with care
Tampering with question booklets, such as tearing or annotating them, is not allowed. While underlining passages is permitted, marking, ticking, or circling answers in the booklet is strictly prohibited.
7. Reporting errors
If a candidate notices errors in the question booklet or OMR sheet—such as missing or unprinted pages—they must immediately report the issue to the invigilator.
8. Timely entry and exit rules
Late entry into the examination hall beyond the prescribed time is not allowed. Similarly, candidates cannot leave the hall early without the invigilator’s permission.
9. Special provisions for PWD candidates
Persons with Disabilities (PWD) are entitled to specific accommodations, as communicated to the invigilators in advance. In case of any issues, candidates can escalate concerns to the Centre Superintendent or Observers.
10. Reporting cheating
Candidates are encouraged to report any observed malpractice or cheating to the invigilator. Ignoring or engaging in unfair practices compromises the examination’s integrity and could result in personal disqualification.
CONSEQUENCES OF MISCONDUCT
The notification warns that violations of these guidelines may lead to severe penalties, including cancellation of the exam and disciplinary actions. In extreme cases, legal action may also be initiated against offenders.
Candidates are urged to abide by these rules, demonstrating honesty and integrity to uphold the examination process’s sanctity.
