Composer Thaman compares Mahesh Babu to James Bond

Thaman is currently one of the busiest music composers in India. Starting the year with two back-to-back Telugu films, Ram Charan’s Game Changer and Nandamuri Balakrishna’s Daaku Maharaaj, the Kurchi Madthapeti composer has an impressive lineup of big releases scheduled this year.

During an interview with Rajesh Manne, Thaman shared his thoughts on the kind of music he envisions composing for Mahesh Babu after Guntur Kaaram. Addressing fans’ expectations of seeing Mahesh Babu in a gangster drama, Thaman referenced popular Tamil films like Rajinikanth’s Jailer, Kamal Hassan’s Vikram, and Thalapathy Vijay’s Beast.

Speaking in Telugu, he said, “Who is the ‘James Bond’ in our town? Mahesh Babu. If he wears a tuxedo and carries a gun, the film will easily make ₹1,000 crore in business.”

He further expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “I’m telling you Mahesh Babu garu, please do a gangster drama film. We’ll make soundtracks that are on another level, not something normal.” His comments highlighted his desire to see Mahesh Babu in a different avatar and collaborate with him on an ambitious project.

Aside from Game Changer and Daaku Maharaaj, Thaman is working on several high-profile projects, including Pawan Kalyan’s OG, Prabhas’ The Raja Saab, Nandamuri Balakrishna’s Akhanda 2, and Sunny Deol’s Bollywood film Jaat.

On the other hand, Mahesh Babu will next be seen in SS Rajamouli’s tentatively titled SSMB 29. Set against the backdrop of an epic adventure, the film is expected to feature an international cast, with reports suggesting Priyanka Chopra as the female lead. The project began production in January 2025 and is scheduled for a release in 2028.
