DK Shivakumar Karnataka politics Congress leader – Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar says he will stay in politics for 8-10 more years – Karnataka News
Amid growing speculation about his political future, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar told his supporters to “have some patience” and wait for the next elections. Shivakumar made the quip in response to people chanting his name and slogans in his favour.
Shivakumar, who was speaking at an Karnataka State Employees’ Association event in Bengaluru, acknowledged the crowd’s enthusiastic chants and asserted his continued commitment to politics. “Have some patience, see when the next election happens under my leadership, and we win elections, you can raise such slogans. I will continue to be in politics for another 8-10 years, and I’m in good health,” he said.
Emphasising his role as a leader beyond holding any particular position, Shivakumar stated that his duty was to guide the party irrespective of titles. “Whichever position I am in, it is my duty to lead the party. Only having the position is not enough to lead a party. Your vision, your commitment, your leadership matters, and whether we will become x, y, or z is not important,” he remarked.
Highlighting the importance of the Congress in shaping political leadership, he said, “The party has given us a lot of strength. We are leaders of the strength given to us by the Congress party. It is our duty as Congressmen to give strength with our leadership.”
As the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president, Shivakumar has been open about his chief ministerial ambitions. Shivakumar was appointed Deputy Chief Minister following the election in May 2023 when the Congress came to power, reportedly to pacify his and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s supporters. Despite that, sections of party leaders and workers have frequently sought to project him as the next chief minister.
Still, reports have infrequently emerged about a purported “rotational chief minister formula”, suggesting that Shivakumar would assume the role after two-and-a-half years. However, the party has never officially confirmed any such arrangement.
