Domestic help poisons retired judge, wife in Faridabad; flees with jewellery and cash

A retired sessions judge and his wife were hospitalised after being poisoned by their domestic help on Saturday afternoon, police said. The accused, identified as Raju Thapa, a Nepalese national, allegedly mixed a toxic substance in their food and fled with jewellery, cash, and the CCTV recorder from their house.

Virendra Prasad Sharma, who retired as a sessions judge on September 30 had been living in Faridabad, with his wife since late October. On Saturday, their domestic worker allegedly poisoned their meal, leaving the couple unconscious.

“When my father did not respond to my repeated calls, I alerted a doctor who lives nearby,” said the couple’s son. The doctor rushed to the house, found them unconscious, and immediately arranged for an ambulance to take them to a private hospital. Both are now reported to be out of danger.

Police have filed a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and formed three teams, including members of the crime branch, to apprehend the suspect. Anoop Singh, the officer in charge of the NIT police station, said, “We have registered an FIR and are analysing CCTV footage from the area. The accused will be arrested soon.”

The Nepalese worker had been employed by the family a few months ago. Further investigation into the case is underway.
