IND vs ENG, 1st ODI: Yashasvi Jaiswal and Harshit Rana handed debuts in Nagpur

India handed debuts to opener Yashasvi Jaiswal and fast bowler Harshit Rana in ODIs in the series opener against England in Nagpur on Thursday, February 6. While it was anticipated that Varun Chakravarthy, who was added late to the squad, would make his ODi debut, India handed new caps to only Yashasvi and Harshit during the team huddle at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium.

Yashasvi Jaiswal was picked as back-up opener in the first ODI and it remains to be seen where he would bat. The youngster has been a regular in Test cricket, opening alongside Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul. He was part of the T20 World Cup squad, but warmed the benches without getting a game.

IND vs ENG, 1st ODI Updates

Handing Yashasvi a debut before the Champions Trophy is a big sign that India are looking to try out the mettle of the left-hander in the ODI series againt England.

It remains to be seen if vice-captain Shubman Gill will continue to open the innings or drop to No. 3 to accomodate Yashasvi at the top of the order.

Meanwhile, Harshit Rana, who made his Test debut last year in Australia, made his T20I debut as a concussion substitute in a T20I against England earlier in January.

With their ODI debuts, Yashasvi and Harshit have become the latest in the line of India’s all-format cricketers.
