Madhya Pradesh: Elderly woman dies in Bhopal after son locks her inside home, goes out of city – Bhopal News

An 80-year-old bedridden woman died in Bhopal due to hunger and thirst after her son locked her in a room and went out of the city with his family, police said.

According to the police, the incident happened in the Nishatpura area of Bhopal, where a woman, Lalita Dubey, used to stay with her son Arun.

Arun left his home with his wife and son for Ujjain after locking Lalita Dubey in the house. Later, Arun called his brother Ajay, who lives in Indore, and informed him that he had left for Ujjain with his family.

Upon finding out the condition of Lalita Dubey, Ajay informed one of his friends in Bhopal to check on her. When his friend reached the home, he found the elderly woman dead.

Upon receiving an alert about the incident, a team of Bhopal Police reached the spot and sent the body for postmortem, which revealed “severe hunger and water loss” as the cause of death.

After receiving a complaint by Ajay, a case was filed against the accused son, Arun, under section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) linked to unintentional murder and the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act.

Speaking on the issue, Inspector Rupesh Dubey of Bhopal Police said, “The post-mortem report revealed that Lalita Dubey died of hunger. Due to her illness, she could not get up from bed to eat or take medicine, and she did not drink water for 24 hours, leading to her death. Following this, a case has been filed against her son Arun under section 105 BNS for unintentional murder and the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act.”
