Madhya Pradesh man beaten to death by mob, cop trying to rescue him killed too
A group of tribals allegedly abducted and killed a man before attacking a police team attempting to rescue him, leading to the death of an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) in Madhya Pradesh’s Mauganj district.
The incident occurred on Saturday. Five suspects have been taken into custody in connection with the violence.
TWO KILLED, POLICE ATTACKED
According to Rewa Range Deputy Inspector General of Police Saket Pandey, two people, including an ASI, lost their lives, while other policemen sustained minor injuries.
Sources said a group of Kol tribals abducted Sunny Dwivedi, believing he had killed a tribal man, Ashok Kumar, a few months ago. However, police records confirm that Kumar died in a road accident.
After receiving an alert, a team led by Shahpur police station house officer Sandeep Bhartiya rushed to Gadra village to rescue Dwivedi. But by the time they arrived, he had already been beaten to death in a room.
When the police opened the door, the tribals attacked them with sticks and stones, injuring several personnel.
The injured officers were rushed to hospitals, but ASI Charan Gautam of the Special Armed Force died during treatment.
To disperse the mob, police had to fire in the air before retreating to safety.
HEAVY SECURITY DEPLOYED
A heavy police force has been deployed in the area to prevent further violence. Mauganj Collector Ajay Shrivastava and Superintendent of Police Rachna Thakur said that Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita has been imposed to maintain public order.
