Maharashtra Anti Terrorist Squad arrests 13 Bangladeshi nationals living illegally in the state


The Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) of Maharashtra police on Friday conducted a special operation with the help of the local police to search for Bangladeshi nationals living illegally in various places in the state.

ATS officials said that as part of this ongoing operation, in the last 24 hours, one of their teams, based on intelligence and with the help of the local police, searched for Bangladeshi nationals who had entered India illegally in the cities of Thane, Navi Mumbai and Solapur.

Three cases have been filed at various police stations under the Foreign Nationals Act, 1946, Passport (Entry into India) Act, 1950, Passport Act, 1967 after the raids.

During the operation, ATS officials with local police officials arrested at least 13 Bangladeshi nationals, including seven men and 6 women, who were illegally living in Maharashtra.

During investigations, the ATS team also noticed that these Bangladeshi nationals have used fake documents and managed to prepare documents like Aadhaar Card and other important documents that are issued to valid and native Indian citizens only.

Earlier this week, during the same operation, seven cases were registered in Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai and Nashik. During these raids, 17 Bangaldeshi nationals were tracked down and arrested.

The ATS and police teams are questioning the apprehended Bangladeshi nationals and further investigation into the latest arrests is also underway.
