New York Jets to sign QB Justin Fields, according to reports

The New York Jets have their next quarterback in Justin Fields.

The signing, worth $40 million over two seasons including $30 million guaranteed according to ESPN, is a signal the Jets believe that Fields can still show the talent that made him a first-round draft pick in 2021.

Fields will be the successor to Aaron Rodgers, whom the Jets split from after two seasons.

Fields, 26, is a much different quarterback than Rodgers because of his youth and dual-threat abilities, though he is not as much of a threat to throw deep downfield.

He threw for 40 touchdowns and 30 interceptions during three seasons in Chicago to begin his career while rushing for 14 more touchdowns. When the Bears did not bring Fields back and opted to move on, Fields went to Pittsburgh last season and started the first six games before being replaced by Russell Wilson as starter.

Fields still played occasionally even after Wilson usurped him, but it was almost always on designed runs. He finished last season with 1,106 yards passing, five touchdowns and one interception, and five rushing touchdowns with six fumbles.
