Pahalgam terror attack: Ex-Pak minister fears says Pakistan stands united if attacked by India
As outrage mounts over the Pahalgam terror attack that claimed at least 26 lives and injured many, former Pakistan Minister Chaudhry Fawad Hussain said that the country will stand together to protect itself if “attacked or threatened” by India.
Hussain, a senior leader of ousted Prime Minister Imran Khan’s party, took to X to declare that all major parties, including the Pakistan Muslim League (N), Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI), will stand united despite their political divide.
“Pakistan is politically divided, but we stand united as a nation. If attacked or threatened by India, all groups — PML-N, PPP, PTI, JUI, and others — will rally together under the Pakistani flag to defend our homeland,” Hussain said in a post on X without any mention of the Pahalgam carnage.
The terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir, one of the deadliest in Jammu and Kashmir since Pulwama in 2019, occurred on Tuesday afternoon near a meadow close to Pahalgam town in Anantnag district. Gunmen opened fire on a crowd, killing 26 people — most of them tourists — and injuring dozens.
Shortly after the assault, The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy outfit of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba, claimed responsibility. Indian security agencies released sketches of three suspects believed to be behind the attack, all Pakistani nationals: Asif Fauji, Suleman Shah, and Abu Talha.
In a strongly worded response, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh vowed that India would not stop at eliminating the attackers but would also target those who orchestrated the plot from across the border. “They will be hunted down,” he said, promising decisive action.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi echoed the sentiment, calling the incident a “heinous act” and vowing justice. “They (terrorists) will not be spared! Their evil agenda will never succeed. Our resolve to fight terrorism is unshakable and it will get even stronger,” PM Modi said in a post on X.
