PM Modi attends Arabian Gulf Cup opening ceremony, meets Kuwait Emir


Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday attended the opening ceremony of the 26th Arabian Gulf Cup in Kuwait and met Kuwait’s Emir, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, as both leaders witnessed the biennial football tournament. PM Modi was the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony.

PM Modi attended the event as the ‘Guest of Honour’ of Kuwait’s Emir, providing an opportunity for informal interactions with Kuwait’s leadership, the Ministry of External Affairs stated in a release.

“Glad to have met His Highness the Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al Sabah during the opening ceremony of the Arabian Gulf Cup,” the Prime Minister tweeted, sharing a photo with the Kuwait leader.

The Prime Minister also conveyed his best wishes to all the participating countries at the football tournament, which is one of the most prominent sporting events in the region.
