Punjab grenade attack: Congress Partap Bajwa quizzed by police after claiming grenades in Punjab
The Punjab Police on Sunday questioned Leader of the Opposition and senior Congress leader Partap Singh Bajwa, urging him to reveal his sources after he claimed in a TV interview that 50 hand grenades had entered the state, of which 18 had been used and 32 remained unaccounted for.
The counter-intelligence team of the Punjab Police visited Bajwa’s residence in Chandigarh and questioned him about his claims. The officials remained at Bajwa’s house for about half an hour before leaving.
Speaking to India Today TV, senior counter-intelligence official Ravjot Garewal said, “Partap Bajwa made a statement in a media interview claiming that there are 50 hand grenades in Punjab, of which about 32 are still active. We took note of the interview and questioned him about his sources.”
The Punjab Police officer added that Bajwa did not disclose his sources and did not cooperate with the inquiry.
“We do not have any such information regarding the presence of grenades in Punjab. The purpose of our visit was to understand the basis of Bajwa’s claim,” Garewal added.
Notably, Bajwa had made the claim during a media interview, sparking concern.
BAJWA HITS BACK
Responding to the questioning by the Counter-Intelligence team, Congress leader Partap Bajwa said, “I stand by my statement and will not reveal my sources. The police officers came to me, and I fully cooperated.”
“Just look at what’s happening in Punjab today. Grenade attacks are taking place, and the government is clueless,” he added.
“I would like to say that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann must wake up to the situation instead of engaging in witch-hunting,” said Bajwa.
