Question linking RSS with terror groups at Chaudhary Charan Singh University exam paper in Meerut sparks row, professor banned from setting papers
A controversy erupted at a Uttar Pradesh government-run university in Meerut after a question paper had a question that allegedly clubbed Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) with terror organisations. A professor, who set up the paper, was banned from all examination and evaluation work of the Chaudhary Charan Singh University.
The controversy arose after a question in the second semester political science exam held on April 2 allegedly linked the RSS to the rise in religious and caste-based politics. The organisation’s name was also included alongside Naxalites, the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front and Dal Khalsa.
As the matter came to light, members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the students’ wing of RSS, held protests on the campus of Chaudhary Charan Singh University on Friday and submitted a memorandum to the registrar.
The university found out that the professor, Seema Panwar, a political science teacher from the affiliate Meerut College, had set up the question paper.
The university’s registrar, Dhirendra Kumar Verma, said Panwar had apologised in writing. He said that she apologised for hurting the sentiments and that she had no intention of doing so.
Verma also said she would now no longer prepare or evaluate any question papers in the future.
The question paper having the controversial question on RSS also surfaced on social media.
The university said the investigation was underway, considering the seriousness of the matter and assured that strict steps would be taken to ensure such incidents don’t occur again.
