Smurfs trailer: Rihanna enters her ‘blue era’ as the coolest Smurfette
Pop star Rihanna will feature as Smurfette in the new Smurfs movie releasing in theatres on July 18. The trailer of the upcoming movie was released on February 6.
In the trailer, Papa Smurf (voiced by John Goodman) is abducted, warning the village that it is no longer safe as he is taken away. Determined to rescue him, Smurfette rallies the others for a daring international adventure. Their journey leads them to Paris, where they encounter unexpected allies and potential foes.
The trailer also showcases two songs by Rihanna—her 2007 hit Don’t Stop the Music and a snippet of her cover of Belinda Carlisle’s Heaven Is a Place on Earth. Additionally, it teases more new music from her, along with an original track, Higher Love, by Desi Trill featuring DJ Khaled, Cardi B, Natania, and Subhi.

Smurfs was earlier set to release on February 14. Besides Rihanna, the film also features voices by Nick Offerman, Natasha Lyonne, JP Karliak, Daniel Levy, Amy Sedaris, Nick Kroll, James Corden, Octavia Spencer, Hannah Waddingham, Sandra Oh, Alex Winter, Billie Lourd, Xolo Maridueña, Kurt Russell and John Goodman.
