Tamil Nadu: Kindergarten student dies after falling into septic tank in St Mary’s School, 3 arrested – Tamil Nadu News
Three people were arrested over the death of a kindergarten student after the child fell into a septic tank inside her school premises in Tamil Nadu’s Villupuram district, police said on Saturday.
On Friday, four-year-old Lia Lakshmi, a lower kindergarten (LKG) student, died after she fell into a septic tank inside the St Mary’s Matriculation Higher Secondary School located in Villupuram.
The three arrested include the school’s correspondent, principal and a class teacher.
Lia Lakshmi reportedly went to use the toilet and, while returning, she allegedly stepped over the rusted and corroded lid of the septic tank and fell into it.
As she failed to return to the classroom, teachers and others began searching for her and found her inside the septic tank.
CCTV footage of the incident showed the school authorities carrying the girl to a car after retrieving her from the septic tank. Following this, she was rushed to the hospital where she was declared brought dead.
Parents of the child and locals staged a protest demanding action against the school management. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin condoled the death of the girl and announced a compensation of Rs 3 lakh to the family.
