Video: Chennai man risks life, saves boy from electrocution in waterlogged street – Chennai News

A man rescued a nine-year-old boy who was being electrocuted in a water-logged street in Chennai on Sunday.

The incident was captured on CCTV and is now going viral on the internet.

The boy, a third standard student, was returning home from school and was walking along the edge of a road through stagnant rainwater. As he passed near a junction box, he stepped on a broken live wire, fell into the water, and began calling for help.

Kannan, who was passing by on his motorbike, saw the boy stuck and stopped to help.

He immediately got off his bike and entered the water while attempting to avoid the live wire and pulled the boy out, despite experiencing the electric shock himself.

“It was raining heavily and there was water stagnation. I was on my way when I saw him fall down. I thought he might have slipped, but as I went closer, I saw his limbs move rapidly and realised he was being electrocuted,” said Kannan.

“I called for help but no one came forward. I went closer and touched him, I got electrocuted as well but still I pulled him out. We then pressed his chest to make him breathe, gave first aid and took him to the hospital,” he added.
