Video: Indonesian delegation sings Kuch Kuch Hota Hai at Rashtrapati Bhavan

A state event at Rashtrapati Bhavan turned into Bollywood night when an Indonesian delegation surprised guests by singing the iconic Bollywood track ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’.

The musical moment happened at a banquet hosted by President Droupadi Murmu in honour of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto on Saturday. As the two nations celebrated deepening ties, the Indonesian delegation’s rendition of the title song from the romantic hit ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ marked a heart-warming cultural crossover.

Starring Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, and Rani Mukerji, ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ hit the big screens in 1998 and became a blockbuster in India and abroad. The movie, directed by Karan Johar, went on to become a Bollywood classic that resonated across cultures.

As the Indonesian officials belted out the beloved tune, they not only struck the right chord but also showcased how cultural affinities can play a winning role in diplomacy.

President Prabowo Subianto, on his first state visit to India, is set to attend the 76th Republic Day celebrations as the Chief Guest at Kartavya Path.

It’s also a mark of two countries’ long-standing ties, as India’s first Republic Day celebrations in 1950 was also graced by then Indonesian President Sukarno. Subianto is the fourth Indonesian head of state to attend Republic Day celebrations here.

Adding to the festivities, Indonesia’s 190-member ensemble band, Genderang Suling Canka Lokananta from the Indonesian Military Academy, will showcase their unique mix of military music and tradition, reflecting discipline and honor.

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with President Subianto at Hyderabad House, where the two leaders agreed to further bolster strategic partnership between the two countries. Discussions focused on defence, maritime collaboration, economic ties, and enhancing people-to-people connections.
